Building a permanent 5 Lands Pathway

Picture
The longer term vision for the 5 Lands Walk is the construction of a permanent all weather pathway, from MacMasters Beach to Terrigal.

It will become a significant attraction for both locals and visitors to the Central Coast.

Central Coast Council approved a Master Plan for the Walkway in March 2012 and is actively seeking funds for its development and providing staff to assist in planning and construction.

This Walkway will be a fully signposted path which provides a safe route that takes advantage of the best our coastline has to offer.

It will respect the cultural heritage of our coast, both Aboriginal and European, while showing you the stunning views, beautiful beaches, bushland and cultural offerings of our community.

It will be available to walk 365 days a year, with the 5 Lands Walk celebrating our “People and Place” each mid-winter.

Development of the permanent pathway will take place as funds become available.

Work completed
Winney Bay Lookout
As part of the Captain Cook redevelopment there is a new North-facing & wheel chair accessible lookout adjacent to the car park. New purpose designed signage will continue to be included along the route.

Staircase from Del Monte Reserve
A safe, all weather concrete pathway and steps now leads down the steep pathway from Del Monte Reserve to Winney Bay. This involved adding a board walk across slippery tree root trip hazards, upgrade the footbridge, connect the boardwalk to the steps on the eastern side of the creek, improve hand rails and add better signage. Revegetation of the worksite has been successfully completed.

Construction of Stage 2 of the Cliff Top Walk
Takes advantage of the spectacular views from the cliffs. Revegetation of the site is continuing by Central Coast Council.

Work in progress
Stage 1 of the Cliff Top Walk
Following consultation by Central Coast Council with the community, the design of Stage 1 of the Cliff Top pathway is being reviewed by council & a decision is expected before Xmas.

Upgrade of Del Monte Place
Copacabana Community Association is collaborating with 5 Lands Walk Inc. to lobby to have the upgrade to Del Monte Place constructed. The upgrade is now listed on CCC Roads Priority List. At a meeting of interested parties to discuss this project, Boris Bolgoff from CCC has committed to have a potential design available for further discussion early in the New Year.

Bush regeneration in Winney Bay
The upgraded and proposed pathways leading to Winney Bay pass through several different eco systems which are under threat from invasive weeds. Discussions are underway with the Salvation Army's Employment Plus to address bitou, lantana, asparagus fern, ochna and cassia that threaten the integrity of the environment.

Future vision
Design a better route and a new lookout from North Avoca beach to the Coast road
This will improve access, safety and views on the pathway. It has been proposed to pay respect to "Jacko Smith", an inspiring Aboriginal Elder, by naming the lookout after him. "Jacko Smith" was a founding member of the Darkinjung Land Council, and was a great supporter of the 5 Lands Walk. Designs have been completed for stakeholder review.
Here's some of the coastline that will open up by construction of the cliff top walk walk north of Captain Cook Lookout
