Copacabana
Listen for the drums!
- Copacabana now has a reputation for having the best party atmosphere on the 5 Lands Walk. The local committee is working on living up to that reputation.
- As always, Captain Cook Lookout will have the stories of whale dreaming, as well as talks about the migration of these spiritual creatures from members of the aboriginal community and ORRCA. We can't guarantee you a whale sighting, but the chances you'll see some whales from this lookout are very high - they've been seen at EVERY 5 Lands Walk so far.

Copacabana moves in two new directions for 5 Lands Walk in 2011.
For the first time Copacabana's 5 Lands Walk will be a full weekend festival, and we have invited communities of the African continent to be our guests.
We will start with our Opening program on Saturday morning, moving into a day of music and performance down on the Village Green. At the same time, the surfclub will host the Connections Exhibition. There will be much going on at Copa over the 5 Lands Walk weekend
Opening Program
Reconnecting to our local Aboriginal history and carrying on the strong links of the 5LW to Aboriginal heritage, Copa will graciously receive the message stick with dance, song and stories. Stories about our connections to mother earth, the sea, the sky and particularly our connections to the whales as they pass our shores.
We will combine with our guests from the African continent to provide an event that includes performance from our local primary and high school children, to seasoned artists in their field. Stay around and enjoy cultural workshops and sample a taste of traditional African food.
And of course, we will have the famous whale talks up at Captain Cook Lookout! Learn about these magnificent creatures of the sea through both the spiritual connections of the aboriginal people and the scientific expertise of ORRCA
Afternoon Program
Put simply, the afternoon will be the best of local Central Coast performers just doing what they love. Bring a blanket and plate, and relax by the beautiful Copacabana Beach
Ephemera Exhibtion
A number of artists will be exhibiting ephemeral sculptural installations on the beach at Copacabana this year. They include Michele Brennan, Copacabana Primary School students (co-ordinated by Nicola Read, Joanna Francis and Sue Lewis), Sile Molloy, June Morin, Nicola Read and Fran Van Krieken.
Connections Exhibition
The Connections Exhibition will include contributions from Aboriginal and African artists as well as the best of our local creative community. Include the local school children, the finalists of the 5 Lands Walk Poster competition and the magnificent beach installations, and Copa will have something for everyone.
Artists participating in the Connections Exhibition at the Surf Club on 18 and 19 June will include some of the art students from Baxter Juvenile Justice Centre (with thanks to Fr Ramsay Nuthall), Sharon Aldrick, Karen Bloomfield, Margaret Burns, Jennefer Cleeren-Tange, Mandy Coolen, Yvonne Edwards, Joanna Francis, Monique Habib, Ingrid Irvine, Michael James, Piers Jones, Annette Kennedy, Coco Kennedy, Lila Kirby, Sile Molloy, Glenda Morgan, Cathryn Nash, Amanda Peers, Freya Pyros, Nicola Read, Will Read, Leanne Reid, Taylor Sampson Ross Reid, Jenny Singh, Kellie Sturm and Fran Van Krieken.
