Ephemera - Avoca Beachside Sculptures
Come and see them Sat 22 June, from sunrise to sunset
What does Ephemera mean?
The word derives from the Greek “ephemeros”, meaning "lasting only one day, short-lived". They are things that exist, are used or enjoyed for only a short time. Ephemeral things can be collectable items that are originally expected to have only short-term usefulness or popularity.
What is Ephemeral Art?
In Art, Ephemera can mean a number of things when created to represent a connection to place, people, spirituality, the physical and to cultural identity. There are many forms of ephemeral art, from sculpture to performance, but the term is usually used to describe a work of art that only occurs once, it is not usually designed to embody any lasting object to be shown in a museum or gallery.
The 5 Lands Walk "Ephemera" exhibition incorporates:
Clever, beautiful and thought-provoking art works
Created from a wonderful variety of materials and objects that have been found in our environment, not limited to discarded furniture, knick-knacks, leaves, rocks and old plastic
Located on the beach at Avoca from the rock pool northwards
Ephemera is about demonstrating a sense of place through a sensibility to the physical, spiritual and cultural environments of the 5 Lands
Now in its 16th year, the Ephemera exhibition has attracted some of Australia's most highly-regarded sculptors
